Instagram’s Lying to You About #Basic – This article from The Russells sums it up pretty well. That is, the trap we all fall into scrolling Instagram and Facebook and thinking life is all PRs and donuts.

The big-time (or not-so-big-time) CrossFit athletes post the big lifts and donut eating because that’s what gets likes and followers. And more likes = more sponsors and possibly more income. Like the article says, “No one wants to watch a video of minute 22 in a four-mile run.”

But don’t let Instagram fool you. The best athletes in the world focus on the basics even if they’re not posting it online for all to see. Scrolling by one PR squat after another makes it difficult to keep our own training in check and not go for a PR every time we touch a bar. But remember, there’s a bigger plan than just today.

Read the article and learn the six social media biases and remember what CrossFit Founder Greg Glassman said, ““Stick to the basics and when you feel you’ve mastered them, it’s time to start all over again, begin anew, again with the basics, this time paying closer attention.”
