Came across some an interesting article today about sleeping and resting positions courtesy of 70s Big. Here are the summary points:

  • Forest dwellers and nomads suffer fewer musculoskeletal lesions than “civilised” people
  • Nature's automatic manipulator during sleep is the kickback against the vertebrae by the ribs when the chest is prevented from movement by the forest floor
  • Various resting postures correct different joints
  • Pillows are not necessary

You should check this out just for the pictures and so you know how to sleep without being attacked by a lion. Ok, so maybe that won't happen, but these postures actually help solve some joint issues. Do we need to get rid of chairs in the Western world or what? Looks like we all need to get into the bottom of a squat and hang out for a while.
