Monday, July 14

Thanks to everyone that made it out to Grand Haven Saturday. We had a blast at the YMCA and on the beach. It was definitely eye-opening to get out of our comfort zone and do something different. As a coach, it is easy to get comfortable with our workouts and environment and it isn't often we get to be coached by someone else. It's something I need to do more often to push myself and get me to that uncomfortable place where I start to learn about my makeup. The beach workout had a similar effect. Pushups may not seem that bad in our gym, but try doing a bunch on sand that moves underneath you. You have to quickly adapt and move on without getting upset that the conditions aren't perfect. I think that is something we can all learn from. Things will most likely never be perfect in the gym or in life. How we handle these situations tells us a lot about who we are and what we are made of. Do you get mad or throw in the towel when the sand moves out from underneath you? Or do you push on and figure out how to make the best of a tough situation.

I encourage you all to try new workouts and play new sports so you have to learn something new and adapt. Swimming in a rough lake or running a trail can be new variations of simple workouts that will challenge you in new ways. Get out of the comfort zone and see how you react and you will learn a lot about yourself.
