Tuesday, January 10
FYI: We've gotten a lot of new inquiries since the beginning of the year about getting started in CrossFit so this Wednesday, January 11 will programmed as a good day for people to try CrossFit for the first time. (Basically an unofficial Wendesday FriendsDay) So, if you've got friends that want to try us out, feel free to bring them Wednesday instead of waiting until January 25. (Jan. 25 will still be a Wednesday FriendsDay) "Mental toughness, grit, it's a muscle and you have to train it." This is a quote from the fittest woman on Earth Katrin Davidsdottir in the video below.
This is the beauty of sports and training. These things teach us how to be tough both physically and mentally. We don't quit when things get tough. We don't just take weight off the bar as soon as it feels heavy. We don't stop running when our legs are screaming at us. We don't give up.
We can train this. Of course we are trying to get physically fitter, but the mental part is just as important, if not more so. Remember last weeks post about “The greatest adaptation to CrossFit takes place between the ears.”?
We can take mental toughness out of the gym. We can apply it to every other aspect of our lives. Every challenge we face can be met with a "never give up" attitude. And we can build that toughness in the gym.
As Katrin says in the video, "Doing the little things right, over and over again" will get you where you want to be. This isn't just about CrossFit. Don't be afraid of failure. Try your best and learn from those losses. And come back tougher next time.
