"Count the number of hours you sit each day. Be honest."

That's from the NPR story below. We all know sitting makes us feel stiff and makes it harder to get moving, but more and more research shows that sitting for long periods may make us that much more immobile as we age.

We're becoming more sedentary as a society, and one hour in the gym each day may not be enough to combat sitting for 12-14 hours a day.

"We now use the Internet to go shopping, order groceries, send messages, and even gossip," DiPietro says. "We used to walk down the hall and gossip; now we send it via email or text."

If you find yourself in the middle of a Netflix binge, it would be beneficial to get up and walk around a little between each episode. Try to remind yourself to move around at work occasionally.

It's a use it or lose it scenario. Don't lose your mobility by sitting still!
