Congrats to everyone that competed this weekend! And thank you to everyone that volunteered and helped make the event a success!
After watching the competition, I just wanted to express my thoughts on why competition can be important. I know it’s not for everyone, but it can be a valuable tool in your training.
Just signing up for a competition can be scary. That first step is something you can be proud of. You are commiting to a challenge and doing it publicly. A lot of the times in CrossFit you don’t even know what the challenge will be before you sign up, so you’re putting yourself out there already.
But committing to compete can give you motivation. It can fuel your training from time to time when it’s appropriate. So you are benefiting from the competition before it even happens.
Then there’s gameday. You have to walk out in front of other athletes and spectators and perform. This can be nerve wracking for many of us, and even if the crowds don’t make you nervous, you know you are in for a physical test.
But then you do it, and you give your best effort. And sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn’t. But you did it. You proved to yourself that you are capable of more than you previously thought. You found a new gear or an inner strength that you didn’t know you had. And that is as valuable as anything.
Testing yourself from time to time is always important. It doesn’t have to be CrossFit or athletics, but sometimes we all need to test our limits and prove to ourselves that we have an inner badass. And knowing what’s inside you allows that strength to ripple out into every other endeavor in your life.
We are proud of you all. We see your effort and celebrate it. Hopefully you had a great time testing yourself and learned a little more about who you are!
